kinesiotaping - elastic tape

Kinesiotaping (rehabilitation tape)

Kinesiotaping is a technique in which a special elastic tape (plaster) is applied to the appropriate place on the body. It is permeable to water and air, does not cause skin allergies, can be worn continuously from a few days to several weeks.

Purpose and function of the rehabilitation tape:

  • Reduction of pain
  • Removal of lymphatic stasis and swelling
  • Support for muscle function (reduces, increases and normalises tension)
  • Increase range of motion
  • Reduction of inflammation

Indications for the use of rehabilitation tape:

  • Pain syndromes of the spine
  • Posture correction (postural defects, scoliosis)
  • Post-traumatic conditions of muscles and joints
  • Dislocations
  • Sprains

Kinesiotaping is primarily used as a form of abdominal muscle support. Through proper application of the tape, you can increase or decrease the tension of the rectus abdominis muscle and external oblique muscles, i.e. support the function of postural muscles, which are responsible for correct posture. Maintaining the correct posture, on the other hand, is the prevention of lumbar spine pain. The choice of technique depends both on the objective to be achieved and on the patient's feelings. An additional advantage of this application is the effect on the skin, which can prevent it from stretching and the formation of stretch marks.

At the same time as taping the abdominal muscles, a technique is used to support and stabilise the ligaments in the lumbosacral region. This optimal form of application prevents pain in the spine as it symmetrically balances the tension of the muscles responsible for the correct posture. Kinesiotaping is also applied to the sacroiliac joint area, which improves lymphatic flow and by stabilisation minimises painful movements.
