Physiotherapy after COVID-19 - news

Physiotherapy after COVID-19

We offer a comprehensive physiotherapy service for patients with disorders resulting from COVID-19 disease (SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection). Such therapy requires a very individual and multi-specialist approach to the patient.

The health problems that remain after COVID-19 are very different and occur with varying frequency among patients.

Here are some of the most common ones that are an indication for therapy:

  • fatigue,
  • shortness of breath (breathing difficulties),
  • limited exercise tolerance,
  • Chest pain, chest rigidity,
  • cognitive dysfunction (memory and concentration problems), so-called "brain fog",
  • sleep problems,
  • heart palpitations,
  • headaches,
  • joint pains,
  • feelings of anxiety, depression,
  • gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhoea, abdominal pain, lack of appetite).

The therapy starts with a consultation with a physiotherapist, during which an interview, examination and simple fitness tests are carried out. On the basis of the data collected, the physiotherapist and the patient determine the main problem and the number and frequency of treatments. The consultation also aims to identify any possible contraindications to physiotherapy, so that the rehabilitation is safe for the patient.

Then 60-minute appointments with physiotherapists are scheduled. During these appointments, the specialists use various techniques from selected physiotherapy methods to focus on a predefined problem, these include:

  • manual therapy - "mobilisation" of ribs, chest, respiratory muscles, spine,
  • PNF - work on breathing patterns: upper and lower, activation of weakened breathing pathways,
  • therapeutic massage,
  • general fitness exercises,
  • breathing exercises,
  • aerobic training,
  • and others

After a series of treatments, a final consultation with a physiotherapist is scheduled to reassess the patient's functional status and make final recommendations or to continue physiotherapy.

No referral is required for advice from a Physiotherapy Specialist.
