Booking:

  • The test is performed without prior reservation. Check the working hours of the collection centre
  • Preparation for the test
General:
  • The test material is blood.
  • The patient must be fasting at least 12 hours after the last meal, unless otherwise advised by the doctor (e.g. post-meal examination)
  • You can only drink plain water or bitter (unsweetened) tea before the test.
  • Do not drink coffee, flavoured water, cola light/ cola "zero" drinks, energy drinks, juices.
  • Do not eat meals, snacks, fruit, vegetables, breath freshening sweets, chew gum, smoke cigarettes.
Specific for babies and children:
  • For children under 3 years of age, it is recommended that blood is taken half to one hour after feeding.
Specific for patients aged 60 and over:
  • Approximately 30 minutes before the examination, it is recommended to consume water or bitter (unsweetened) tea.
  • Important
Avoid eating excessive amounts of fat before the blood draw and do not take cholesterol-lowering drugs.
  • Description
Cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes. Some hormones and bile acids are formed on its basis. It is a component of gallstones. Cholesterol is produced mainly in the liver. It is deposited on the walls of vessels, causing atherosclerosis. In the blood as >HDL and >LDL - cholesterol.
Importance of cholesterol testing: assessment of fat metabolism, assessment of atherosclerosis risk, analysis of gallstone composition (examination of deposits).
Abnormal values: overweight, metabolic disorders, family tendencies.
Elevated cholesterol values occur, for example, in diseases of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, obesity, hypothyroidism, diabetes, during pregnancy, primary and secondary hyperlipidaemia.
