Indications and contraindications
Indications:
Surgical treatment of obesity (ChLO) is for people aged between 18 and 60 years in whom:
- BMI (current or documented in the past) has reached 35 - 40 kg/m2, with the additional coexistence of at least one of the associated diseases, such as type II diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome.
- BMI reaches over 40 kg/m2 without additional criteria. The prerequisite for qualification for surgery is failure of conservative treatment, or inability to maintain weight loss for a long time despite adequate conservative treatment.
Weight loss due to intensive dieting prior to surgery below the BMI qualifying for surgery IS NOT a contraindication to surgery!
Contraindications:
- Cancer
- Inflammatory diseases of the digestive tract
- Psychiatric disorders
